Miles Fischler

Vacancy ( flying / driving / walking )

Miles Fischler (Brussels, 1991), is a Belgian photographer currently living in Antwerp. In her personal work, she is mainly intrigued by structures and the way we look at images. The main subject of her work is the interaction between people and their environments, how we construct and divide the world. Her use of colour and composition lure in the viewer. She uses both her own photography, which is chiefly captured on colour negative, as appropriated material (like photo archives and online image libraries). Her images balance between a poetic and analytical approach and generate an enigmatic world that is both familiar as strange.

The first photographs she made for her Master project came about very organically and were fuelled by a fascination for the washed-out colours, fenced off areas and the open plains of the American West, seen through the eye of a satellite camera. Seeing perceptibly empty plots of land systematically being fenced off, raised several questions concerning property and privacy in a physical and virtual sense. The series is divided into three parts that consist of a range of different types of imagery: satellite views, street view images, real estate footage and photos made on-site.
