Intermedia - Cross-campus collaboration between visual arts and music
►► The interdisciplinary collaboration between campus Sint Lukas and campus Lemmens is running for the third year as an inter-campus course 'Intermedia'. The course will run for one semester, during which students will be intensily collaborating every week towards an interdisciplinary performance evening at Stuk on December 19. For more information and participation, please contact email@example.com (campus Lemmens) or firstname.lastname@example.org (campus Sint Lukas)
Isn’t it obvious to talk about the rhythm of a picture, the power of a form, the dynamic and the composition of a painting, the sound color, a soundscape, the movement
in the music, the movement in a painting, etc. Wether it’s about form and color, sound or movement, basically, we speak the same language. Every notation is a step across the borders of different media, from sound or language to the symbol, the sign. Writing is a translation, a fundamental dialogue between graphical sign and its content. Sound frozen into a symbol until somebody, a musician, a storyteller brings it alive again.
‘Loops’ was the first cross-campus Intermedia project. During academic year 2016-2017 both students in visual arts as well as students in music at the LUCA School of Arts were challenged to collaborate on four Loops-compositions written by Philippe Hurel. The results were shown during the final event April 19, 2017 at Stuk, Leuven. During the project the participants explored how a multimedia-interpretation might create new opportunities to accentuate the multi-layered complexity in the compositions. The results were presented as live performances, installations and improvisations. This cross-disciplinary project has been guided by Vincent Caers, Klaas Verpoest, Peter Jaquemyn and Bart Vandeput as part of the artistic research environment at LUCA School of Arts.
About Error #2
‘Error_2’ was the second edition of the cross-campus Intermedia project in which students of both the visual arts and the musical department at the LUCA school of Arts collaborate in an interdisciplinary context. Students are exposed to creative strategies in other disciplines and learn to question and broaden their own artistic work, to adopt new attitudes and to apply them in their own artistic practice. The result was shown in installations and live performances in Stuk on December 19, 2017 at Stuk, Leuven.
