Sarah is currently working towards a PhD in the Arts, to be completed in 2020, under the supervision of Professor Thomas De Baets. While she is active within LUCA School of Arts (Leuven), her research forms part of an interdisciplinary project, funded by the KU Leuven Research council and entitled ‘Eye gaze in multimodal interaction management’. It continues the collaborative relationships with the Linguistics department at KU Leuven, already developed during a pilot project. Additionally, eye gaze in multimodal interaction is being investigated in the contexts of daily conversation, signed language interaction, and musical ensemble playing. Sarah’s research employs practitioner research as a methodology that runs parallel to her scientific inquiry. Both strands of research will be pitched against each other to stimulate critical reflection on hypotheses and designs for future research.
Sarah obtained Master's degrees from the Royal Academy of Music in London (violin) and the Musicology department at KU Leuven. From 2014 until 2016, she was active as a research assistant at LUCA School of Arts, contributing to the pilot project ‘Into the Wild: Musical communication in ensemble playing. From multidisciplinary to interdisciplinary research strategies’.
