When choosing the Animation Film programme taught at our campus Sint-Lukas Brussels, you'll develop a wide range of artistic, narrative and technical skills while being completely immersed in the fascinating world of animation.
Curriculum

Brussels is a melting pot of languages, cultures and religions, a complex but fascinating European metropolis and it is LUCA School of Arts home base. Audiovisual Arts in LUCA Brussels consists of Film, Animation Film and the Erasmus Mundus Programmes Doc Nomads/DocNomadsPlus and FilmMemory. As our campus in Brussels also houses Visual Arts (Photography, Fine Arts, Graphic Storytelling and Graphic Design), Interior Design and Construction Technology, this is the perfect place where cross-fertilization between different media and domains in the arts is made possible. LUCA School of Arts Brussels is therefore the place to be for future exchange students.

Programme for exchange students
Drawing skills and graphic insight are indispensable while studying in our Animation Film study department.
As an exchange student, you’ll mainly be enrolled in 3rd year programme. However, some courses are part of the 2nd year because of the curriculum structure. We expect you to have acquired all the basic components regarding the making of an animation film. It’s also necessary to have obtained advanced skills in character animation, narration and art direction. In the 3rd BA we focus on the development of a personal stylistic style, which is indispensably linked to the students personal manner of storytelling and visualizing movement. The focus is therefore gradually shifting to one's own work and personal ambitions, on realising an animation project that meets professional standards, both technically and creatively.

Discover LUCA’s workshops
In our audiovisual workshops you enter a professional environment where image and sound come together.
You work in spacious film studios equipped with sound absorbing materials, suitable for both large-scale productions and intimate recordings. Combined with the camera, lighting and audio equipment available through the equipment lending service, you have everything you need to realise your audiovisual ideas both technically and creatively.
From recording to editing and colour grading: all spaces and equipment are tailored for students who want to develop their audiovisual projects with strong technical and creative skills.
As a LUCA student, you have access to every workshop across all LUCA campuses.

What do you need?
- A good knowledge of English (level B2) is required to make the most of your stay with us.
- As an exchange student, you’ll study within the 3rd bachelor. Hence we expect you to have acquired all the basic components regarding the making of an animation project. It’s also necessary to have obtained advanced skills in character animation, narration and art direction.

Application & entry requirements
All Erasmus+ Exchange Students need to apply via the exchange application procedure of LUCA School of Arts. During your application process, you can indicate the LUCA campus of your choice and the exchange programme you wish to apply for. Notice that not all programmes are open for incoming exchange students in both semesters. An overview can be found here.
- The deadline for the Autumn Semester / full year is April 1
- The deadline for the Spring Semester is October 1
Outcome Exchange Application
The outcome of the application can be expected within 4-6 weeks after the application deadline. Both you and your international coordinator will be informed about the result of your application by e-mail. No need to inquire about the outcome yourself.

Quality is LUCA’s driving force
If the fundamental attitude of the policy plan implies that ‘quality is our driving force’, and that every aspect of the policy can be assessed against this, then LUCA undeniably aims to build and nurture a strong quality culture: a culture based on trust in people with talent and expertise, and aimed at valuing, inspiring, and improving.
The formal quality framework for study programmes within LUCA was named KOPERA, which stands for: Critically Analyzing the Quality of Study Programmes with Peers in Self-Direction.
For KOPERA, LUCA starts from a vision of quality assurance that stems from trust and is aimed at valuing, inspiring, and improving.
During the six-year KOPERA cycle, each study programme receives a panel of critical friends who review the implementation of the quality characteristics and examine how the programme contributes to the general LUCA policy.
The culmination of KOPERA is the ultimate assurance of programme quality. The core question here is: "does the study program have a good quality culture that follows the ‘plan-do-check-act’ cycle?"
