Book launch: Masculinities+ en Fashion+

On December 8th, LUCA School of Arts Campus C-mine Genk will present the publication of two academic works during an event at the Fashion Museum of Antwerp. Masculinities+ and Fashion+ are collections of essays exploring the changing image of masculinity in popular culture and the second book focuses on inclusive practices within fashion.

Diversity and inclusiveness, individualism and freedom. Progressive values that in the 21st century increasingly challenge our society to let go of traditional views and develop new frames of thought. With Masculinities+ and Fashion+, editor Dirk Reynders (LUCA School of Arts) especially wants to highlight the critical (artistic) research that can help stimulate that change, especially in the field of (popular) culture and visual arts.

Masculinities+ takes as its starting point the traditional image of masculinity, which is coming under heavy fire these days. The book features diverse voices on inclusive expressions of masculinity in our popular media and culture.

Fashion+ explores the concept of "inclusive fashion" within the entire fashion cyclus. A growing social and environmental awareness is motivating more sustainable practices within the fashion industry. Again, through the contributions in this book the importance of inclusion and an alternative to the traditional image is highlighted.

"These publications create multivoicedness around urgent themes," said Dirk Reynders. "LUCA C-mine Genk strives to be an inclusive and sustainable campus that reflects the wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives in society. With these books, we particularly want to encourage a cultural discourse that is in line with 21st century society."
