Filip De Roeck, PhD in the Arts

Through my artistic drawing practice, I want to investigate the digital condition of humans by designing and using drawinginstruments. These drawinginstruments/installations/machines generate all kinds of interruptions and resistance for the artist. The drawinginstrument interrupts the habits and patterns in the drawing process. I want to give these drawinginstruments a place in a world where interaction with images or information is strongly influenced by the digital condition. Logarithms and metadata organize a range of information for us. We receive the information based on our previous interactions or registered metadata. The technology that forms the interface to this digital world (smartphone, smartwatch, like-buttons, ...) tries to minimize every interaction time. Making an experience of the world and the technology that shapes it, more and more difficult to unlock.
