Exploring the Multiple in a "Cinema of Attractions"
- Research Unit Interactions
- Research Group Social Spaces
In this doctoral research project I will explore how interventions on a number of parameters of the video apparatus can generate a sense of enchantment, fascination and curiosity with the observer. Multiplicity being the central theme or my research, I will concentrate on using multiple instances of specific interventions – on layers, vantagepoints, windows, ... in search of a contemporary iteration of the concept "cinema of attractions" (Gunning, 1990). Situating my work in or against this concept of "cinema of attractions" and the context of a.o. "expanded cinema" (Youngblood, 1970), will provide the theoretical background for this research.
