At Narafi FOTO – the professional bachelor degree in photography of LUCA School of Arts, Brussels (Vorst) - we offer an exchange programme for international students who want to expand their photography and video-making skills.
During your stay, you will join our practical classes (called 'ateliers' in Flemish). These focus on both technical skills in photography and video, and the development of your personal artistic voice.
We expect you to speak English well, and to make an effort to understand basic Flemish.
Curriculum
Our bachelor’s degree in Photography is a hands-on, assignment-driven programme.
You’ll work on projects in
- Portrait and fashion photography
- Still life photography
- Reportage and/or documentary photography
- Large format photography (analogue)
- Short video productions (including sound and image).
We also place strong emphasis on image editing and post-production. You should be familiar with software like Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and/or Capture One Pro.
Update your skills
As an exchange student, you’ll join our second- and third year ateliers.
We expect you to be motivated and willing to update your technical and post-production skills. This might include improving your knowledge of flash photography, both in the studio and on location.
If you come during Semester 2, you will take part in our annual off-campus Portrait- and fashion week.
This includes:
- A collaboration with make up school Make Up Forever Brussels
- Creative teamwork on high-end fashion and portrait shoots
- Guidance by guest lectures specialised in fashion and/or portrait photography.
Important: if you only join for Semester 2 you should have a working knowledge of Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and Premiere as well as.
Our lecturers are here to guide you - to help improve your skills, develop your own style and create a portfolio that reflects both technical mastery and creative vision.

Discover LUCA’s workshops
In our photography workshops you immerse yourself in the world of analogue photography.
You develop and print both black-and-white and colour film in a studio fully dedicated to craftsmanship and experimentation.
In addition, professionally equipped studios are at your disposal, featuring high-end cameras, powerful studio lighting and specialised hardware and software — perfect for photographic projects, experiments and productions.
You also have access to advanced film scanners and professional (large-format) printers to scan, edit and print your work in the highest quality.
As a LUCA student, you have access to every workshop across all LUCA campuses.

What do you need?
The programme is officially taught in Dutch, but we do our best to provide guidance and feedback in English where possible. All the classes in our programme are practical classes (no theory).
For this particular programme, a command of Dutch is recommended in combination with a good command of English (B2).

Quality is LUCA’s driving force
If the fundamental attitude of the policy plan implies that ‘quality is our driving force’, and that every aspect of the policy can be assessed against this, then LUCA undeniably aims to build and nurture a strong quality culture: a culture based on trust in people with talent and expertise, and aimed at valuing, inspiring, and improving.
The formal quality framework for study programmes within LUCA was named KOPERA, which stands for: Critically Analyzing the Quality of Study Programmes with Peers in Self-Direction.
For KOPERA, LUCA starts from a vision of quality assurance that stems from trust and is aimed at valuing, inspiring, and improving.
During the six-year KOPERA cycle, each study programme receives a panel of critical friends who review the implementation of the quality characteristics and examine how the programme contributes to the general LUCA policy.
The culmination of KOPERA is the ultimate assurance of programme quality. The core question here is: "does the study program have a good quality culture that follows the ‘plan-do-check-act’ cycle?"
