Bachelor and Master exchange programme Television - Film Campus Genk / C-mine

Academic Bachelor
Curriculum

    Focus on storytelling and projectmanagement

In our film studies we teach you to explore the context before you start working on techniques, form and content. You define the target group and the objective, describe the message and start from a feeling or from a specific application. In this way, you become the relevant storyteller that the audiovisual field is looking for today.

We train you to be an organizational project manager who knows all aspects of the production process and who may also specialize in one specific segment. That is why we provide you with all aspects of the audiovisual spectrum from which you can make your own choice. Ranging from the realization of  fiction, documentary, reality or other series to the production of commercials, video clips or short and feature films.  We prepare you intensively and comprehensively for a professional career that you will soon be able to fill out according to your own wishes and preferences.

    Bachelor's Program

In addition to developing the necessary skills in camera work, lighting, sound, découpage, actor direction, editing, special effects ... during the bachelor's years you learn how to tell a good (audiovisual) story in dozens of projects. Regardless of whether your aspirations lie in the field of series or feature films, documentaries, commercials or social media applications.

    1st Bachelor

To start in the first year Television-Film, you do not need any special prior knowledge. Both the theoretical courses and the artistic practice start at a basic level, but we do expect you to put your creativity to full use right from the start. In scriptwriting, directing & editing, cinematography, post-production,... you learn the tricks of the film trade. The theoretical courses broaden your view so you can work as a filmmaker with both feet in the current social context. The work format is usually project-based. This way you create two personal film projects in addition to several practical assignments and exercises.

    2de Bachelor

In the second year, the focus is on context-oriented creating in fiction and non-fiction assignments.  All the formative subjects of the first year are further explored.  Television and multi-camera directing make their appearance, and the subject Production highlights the financial and organizational aspects of the television and film business.  In order to produce efficiently, group discipline and a strict division of tasks are strongly emphasized from now on.

    3de Bachelor

In the concluding Bachelor's phase, you work about half the time on TV and film projects within the genres of documentary, fiction and advertising. In addition, you complete the formative aspects: (multi-)camera, lighting, sound and editing, and screenwriting also gets a final cut. The subject AV Scenography broadens your view of the professional field. There are both group assignments and personal work. Finally, in the Portfolio & Proposal course you work out a proposal for a personal master's thesis. You are now able to tell audiovisual stories using the latest techniques.

If you want to know more about which courses you will receive, check out the course schedule with study guide for content and credits here.

    Master's Program

In the master's year, you will explore your audiovisual personality and demonstrate your artistic leadership in the form of a master's thesis. This personal work consists of an audiovisual project and a reflective, investigative document.  You build on your competences of context-oriented creation and your experience in research and artistic investigation. You show that you can create with an objective, a target audience and a presentation form in mind. The master year also includes internal and external master classes, a TV-Film research lab and an internship of at least six weeks in the professional field. In this master year, your production skills must result in a personal business plan as a starting audiovisual entrepreneur.

Our bachelors choose for a one-year artistic master or a two-year educational master.

The artistic master's is devoted to your personal graduation project. You combine your master's thesis with various master classes and an extensive internship of at least six weeks. You choose your internship in connection of your master's thesis and in this way you receive strong input for your graduation project. The internship is also a unique experience that opens doors for you in the audiovisual sector. Because showing what you have to offer is the best showcase.

In the educational master's you build on your artistic competences with a view to a professional career in the artistic-educational field (part-time art education, compulsory education, non-formal arts education). If you choose an artistic master's and you are interested in education, then after obtaining your artistic master's you can enrol in a shortened one-year educational master's programme.

If you want to know more about the courses you will be taken, see the education offer here with study guide for content and credits for bachelor and master.

At LUCA we attach great importance to the quality of our courses

If the basic principle of the policy plan means that 'quality is our driving force', and that every aspect of the policy can be tested against this, then LUCA undeniably wants to develop and nurture a strong quality culture: a culture that leaves based on trust in people with talent and expertise, and which is aimed at valuing, inspiring and improving.

The formal quality framework for training within LUCA was named KOPERA, which stands for: Critically Analyzing the Quality of Training with Peers in Own Direction.
For KOPERA, LUCA starts from a vision of quality care that is based on trust and aimed at valuing, inspiring and improving.

During the six-year KOPERA cycle, each training course receives a panel of critical friends who examine the implementation of the quality characteristics and examine how the training contributes to the general LUCA policy.
The final element of KOPERA is the ultimate assurance of training quality. The key question is: "Does the program have a good quality culture that follows the 'plan-do-check-act' circle?"

LUCA publishes a quality sheet for each course. You can find this on the Education Quality page.
