This research proposal concerns a subquestion in a running research project targetting “the basic parameters of meaningful games” and “how these change when a new interface is introduced”. In this proposed sub-research project, we want to explore how we can “create a non-representative environment, that is nonetheless experienced as a coherent, immersive space”. We then follow up this question by asking ourselves how we can “design an interaction that deviates from established game designs, but nonetheless gives the user a strong feeling of agency” within this space. The control method used for these experiments is a BCI, a Brain-Computer Interface. We plan to use the data that result from the measurement of a player’s brain activity, to control the game and/or as input for creating generative environments that can be navigated.
