The postdoc project Wild Matters is partly situated in the field of participation and media art, partly in the field of contemporary environmental problems. Perspectives on nature are explored and questioned from a focus on human rewilding, a recent trend emerging from rewilding programs for ecosystems. This results in artistic experiments and explorations in which we are not only looking for media opportunities to enhance the experience of nature, but also for more sustainable scenarios for the near future. After all, the current Corona crisis prioritises the need for change, in the interest of the well-being of both humans and other organisms on Earth.
The Impulse trajectory includes the start-up of the multi-year project through fieldwork and a series of workshops in which the bond with nature is explored and encouraged. This fieldwork takes place from the biological research station of Kilpisjärvi, in the middle of the pristine wilderness of Northern Finland. It is an important part of this first, exploratory phase of the postdoc project because, like the workshops, it provides inspiration, nutrition and input to the intended developments.
