Monika Stricker is a German artist based in Brussels. A former student of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she was in residency at WIELS in 2013. Stricker is interested in the social, symbolic and post-symbolic meanings of art, especially three-dimensional work/sculpture. Her work values signals over symbols. These signalizing features are hidden - among others - in the the processed materials and subjects. Her work spans from car bonnets smeared with various quantities and intensities of buttermilk to recent paintings and sculptures depicting parts of the male nude.
