Ciel Grommen, PhD in the Arts

This PhD in the arts examines what it means to 'dwell' within our contemporary liquid society: to halt somewhere, in a certain, well-defined context, and draw attention to it. Contrary to how Martin Heidegger defined 'habitation' in 1951, this concerns a form of dwelling that is not always peaceful, but still to a certain extent productive. The research is conducted by inhabiting places that challenge our contemporary understanding of dwelling: places under exceptional management, with distinctive climatic conditions, where there is tension in relation to the fluid market... Subsequently, socio-spatial practices are developed that aim to challenge contemporary thinking through artistic experience.
