Sandy Claes is assistent-professor aan de KU Leuven en LUCA School of Arts, gespecialiseerd in de interactie tussen media, technologie en publieke ruimte. Ze combineert onderzoek, design en kunst om participatieve datavisualisatie, storytelling en burgerparticipatie te faciliteren.

Bio

Sandy Claes focust haar onderzoek op de interactie tussen media, technologie en publieke ruimte, benaderd via research-through-design. Huidige projecten omvatten participatieve datavisualisatie en storytelling, evenals het faciliteren van burgerparticipatie via in-situ media.

Sandy behaalde in 2017 een doctoraat in de ingenieurswetenschappen aan de KU Leuven met onderzoek naar publieke visualisatie. Ze heeft een master in de audiovisuele kunsten (2005). Haar audiovisuele werk werd bekroond op internationale filmfestivals zoals I Castelli Animati in Rome en het Internationaal Kortfilmfestival Leuven, en vertoond op podia zoals LABoral in Madrid en Museum M in Leuven. Voor haar aanstelling bij LUCA in 2020 werkte ze als lead user researcher bij de innovatieafdeling van de openbare omroep VRT. Met haar gecombineerde achtergrond in wetenschap, design en kunst benadert Sandy onderzoeksprojecten vanuit een multidisciplinair perspectief.
