Lieve Robbroeckx is an experienced harpist who throughout her long career performed many different styles of music. She read physics at the University of Brussels and music at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerpen, where she graduated in harp.
From 1979 till 1992 she lived in Bangkok, Thailand where she was principal harpist with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and propagated the harp in Thai music with the Mai Thai Chamber Orchestra and with the Siamese Music Ensemble Fong Nam. With the latter group she premiered several works combining the harp and Thai instruments, with several performances in the presence of the royal family.
After her return to Flanders Ms. Robbroeckx played in and with a wide range of orchestras, choirs and chamber groups, a.o. Cordafiato (duo harp/flute) and Harpe Diem Quartet ( 4 harps). She performed as a soloist the concerti by Dittersdorf, Handel, Mozart, and Saint-Saëns and she created the Harp Concerto by Belgian composer Marc Verhaegen.
Currently teaching is Ms. Robbroeckx’s main focus. She is a devoted teacher and works with pupils of all ages, both in private lessons, at LUCA, and in masterclasses. Many of her students have won prizes at international competitions. She regularly serves as a jury member in national and international competitions, and in 2007 she was invited to sit on the jury of the prestigious USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, Indiana.
Ms. Robbroeckx considers exchanging and sharing music with other harpists and musicians an important part of being a musician. The World Harp Congress (WHC) is the number one international organisation serving these purposes. She has been a member since the WHC was founded in 1980, and she was a correspondent until 2005, when she became a Board member. In 2014 she was elected as Secretary to the Board of Directors of the WHC. Adhering to the same philosophy she founded Harpe Diem, the Flemish harpists association, of which she is president. For twenty years she was the artistic director of the Foundation’s annual festival bringing young and advanced harpists and professionals together, sharing music and listening to invited guest harpists of world fame.
