Untitled (L’ironie d’une Sainte)

Hannah Joris

The installation L’ironie d’une Sainte is an investigation on how body fragmentation can express those challenges we are confronted with due to our mortality. In this work I reflect on human vulnerability and suffering through affectionately carving bones from white yams and carefully treating, washing and stacking the bones after a process of natural dessication and decay.

The pile of bones confronts the viewer with the importance of the physical object as the trace of a loss, or, specifically, the role of body fragments and relics as rem(a)inders of what once was present and complete.
