About Tyler Mitchell

Tyler Mitchell (°1995, Atlanta, GA) is an artist, photographer and film maker residing in Brooklyn. As a teenager, he was already filming and editing his homemade skate video’s, with just a Canon camera and tutorials on YouTube. At twenty, he published his first book of photography on the skate scene and architecture in Havana.

He graduated as a Bachelor in Film & Television at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and honed his craft creating short films, music video’s and photo reports for publications like Teen Vogue. His big break came in September 2018: at 23 years of age he was the first photographer of colour (and one of the youngest) to reach the cover of the prestigious Vogue magazine with a portrait of Beyoncé. The experience was, in his own words, “beautiful and nerve-wracking and exciting all at once.”

Mitchell has since worked with prominent fashion labels like Marc Jacobs, JW Anderson, Converse, Nike, and Givenchy, in addition to his personal artistic work in photography and film. In each of his projects, he searches for a new esthetic and identity for the coloured community in the US. His youth and upbringing in Georgia is also a big source of inspiration. Mitchell is very much in demand as a speaker, and has been invited by renowned institutions like Yale University, Harvard University, NYU, Paris Photo, and The International Center of Photography. We are most honored to add LUCA School of Arts C-mine tot his impressive list.
