Are you a refugee and are you thinking about a higher education programme in Flanders? Or do you have a bachelor's degree in the arts and would you like to start a master's degree? Then LUCA is the right place for you!

To help you find your way, we have summarized this overview page for you with practical information about the admission requirements.

Take courses from our bachelor's programme.

The application and enrolment procedure for applicants with refugee status consists of four steps. This procedure is only applied to candidates with one of the following refugee statuses:

  • Candidates who are granted the status of refugee
  • Candidates that have been granted the subsidiary protection
  • Candidates who are currently going through the asylum procedure

If so, candidates can follow this step-by-step plan:

ENROLMENT OR REGISTRATION

Step 1: Admissions

All candidates will have to submit an online Admissions application. On a running basis  the Admissions Office will check if you meet the admission requirements (mainly diploma requirements, language requirementsresidence requirements, and learning account requirements). More info on the Admissions Requirements can be found here.

For many programmes or disciplines in the field of the arts, music and performing arts passing an Artistic Aptitude Test is mandatory. For programmes without Artistic Aptitude Test you will be asked to answer a few motivational questions.

Register for admissions and the Artistic Aptitude Test or answer the motivational questions.

Step 2: Artistic Aptitude Test

Depending on the chosen programme, you will need to pass in an Artistic Aptitude Test.

  • For all academic bachelor’s (Music, Drama, Visual Arts & Audiovisual Arts) and professional bachelor’s ‘Visual Design’ and ‘Audiovisual Techniques: Film-TV-Video’ it is mandatory to succeed in the Artistic Aptitude Test.

The Artistic Aptitude Test in general screens your artistic competence and motivation based on several assignments and a motivation interview. Based on the assignments (which you prepare beforehand or on the day itself), the education teachers review your artistic vision, cultural baggage, creativity, and knowledge. Through the motivation interview, they want to know how motivated and driven you are. Both are very important to make you feel at home in the education programme and succeed.

  • For the professional bachelor’s programme ‘Audiovisual Techniques: Photography’, ‘Construction Technology’, and ‘Interior Design’, there are no tests organized.

However, you will need to answer some motivational questions (online) about your motivation to study Dutch in the first place and secondly why you choose LUCA/this programme and your future career path. You must substantially motivate your answers.

Step 3: Conditional Certificate of Admittance

After taking part in the Artistic Aptitude Test or answering the motivational questions, you will receive a Conditional Certificate of Admittance which is valid for 2 years.

Since LUCA only offers Dutch-taught Bachelor's degree programmes, we suggest to combine the degree program with a language course:

> You follow a part-time language course at a language support centre (i.e., CLT Leuven,CVO, Huis voor het Nederlands) or in evening classes and combining it with some courses  at LUCA through a credit contract. (The learning path advisor will review with the candidate which LUCA courses are possible.)

Step 4: Final & Binding Registration

Once the learning path advisor and you have confirmed your study programme you can register official.

You will then receive a link to the final and binding online registration tool (OLI). When you need to select in the tool the type of registration, here you choose the credit contract of your chosen programme.

In the OLI tool, you will further need to upload the following documents:

  • Conditional Certificate of Admittance
(It is possible that you have to upload this 2 times in OLI.)
  • Your Identity Card or your Passport
  • Your original diploma/transcripts
(If you don't have access to your diploma, you contact admissions)
  • Proof of registration for language course
(You can also send this to inschrijvingen@luca-arts.be after your registration)

After submitting your registration and when LUCA Inschrijvingen has reviewed your registration, you will be official registered at LUCA School of Arts.

Once you have completed your language courses or language preparatory year, you should contact LUCA Inschrijvingen (inschrijvingen@luca-arts.be) to enquire about changing your credit contract to a diploma contract. Make sure to add to your communication:

  • the certificate/attestation after passing the language preparatory year
  • your conditional enrolment letter of LUCA.
