Graphic Design Exchange

Exchange Programme

In a world full of images and information, we need creative designers who bring clarity. In the Graphic Design programme, you will learn to translate complex ideas into powerful visual communication.

Curriculum

You will discover how to visualise stories – from posters, books and websites to interactive installations and data visualisations. You will learn to play with text, colour, form and composition to convey your message powerfully.

In addition to creativity, you will also acquire technological skills. You will work with the latest media and tools: from AI and augmented reality to 3D printing and laser cutting. In our unique Spatial Computing Lab, you will experiment with innovative digital techniques that connect design and technology.

From day one, you will work on projects that matter, focusing on themes such as climate, diversity and technology in society.

This will help you grow into a designer who thinks critically, dares to experiment and helps shape the future.

What does your year look like?

Classes start at the end of September and run until the end of June, divided into two semesters of 12 weeks each. After each semester, there are theory exams and practical assessments. You will attend classes most days, but you will also have time to work independently – at home, in your student accommodation or in our studios.

The programme is primarily practice-oriented. You will receive a creative mix of design and theory, such as art history and design studies. You will work extensively in small groups and receive personal feedback, allowing you to develop your own style. Presenting and explaining your ideas are also part of the programme – essential skills for when you start working with clients later on.

In your third year, you can go abroad on Erasmus and do an internship to gain real work experience. You will complete your bachelor's degree with a creative final project.

After that, you can continue your studies in our Master's programme in Media & Information Design.

Programme for exchange students: As an exchange student you’ll enroll in the first semester of the 3rd bachelor year. The semester will focus on:

  • You’ll learn how to use your acquired skills and formulate your own design assignments based on imposed themes;
  • You’ll broaden your knowledge in different facets of digital media;
  • You’ll explore your hardware and software beyond everyday digital devices;
  • You’ll learn to use tools and techniques for registering, documenting and presenting your research process.

Discover LUCA’s workshops

Across LUCA’s different workshops you will find a wide range of specialised facilities. In the glass workshop you work with both hot and cold glass techniques and various finishing processes. In the moulding workshop you learn how to create moulds in different materials to reproduce forms, while in Printmaking you explore analogue printing techniques such as relief, intaglio and planographic printing.

You can also bring your ideas to life in the print workshops. Here you translate digital designs into tangible results, from fine art prints and large-format posters to prints on a variety of materials and textures. With professional equipment and the guidance of experienced workshop technicians, you will discover the techniques and materials that best match your artistic vision and story.

As a LUCA student, you have access to every workshop across all LUCA campuses.
