Worker's Union

Social unrest calls for loud voices: in Worker's Union, Louis Andriessen explores the tension between individual freedom and strict discipline. The work requires a loud-sounding ensemble and gives the musicians a strict rhythm, but with free choice of notes. In his own words: “It is difficult to play in an ensemble and stay in time, just as it is difficult to organize and carry out political actions.”
Worker's Union is flanked by works by Johnson, Berio, Saariaho, and a creation by LUCA student Shir Ran Yinon.
