Admission requirements

Admission requirements may vary depending on the desired program or trajectory. In addition to diploma and learning credit conditions, there are additional language and residency conditions for students from outside the Flemish Community.

Diploma requirements

To enroll in a program, depending on the chosen trajectory, you must have a bachelor's degree or undergo an assessment. If that is not the case, there are a few possible scenarios:

Candidates with a Dutch Diploma

Dutch students who wish to enroll at the LUCA School of Arts must be eligible for university studies or studies in the field of Arts in the Netherlands. A candidate student residing in the Netherlands without Dutch nationality, but who has obtained a Secondary or Higher Education diploma in the Netherlands, must meet the same conditions.

See below for an overview of which Dutch diplomas qualify for starting in which LUCA programs:

Candidates with a foreign Diploma

International students are, of course, more than welcome at LUCA School of Arts. However, registration with a foreign diploma is only possible after your file has been submitted and approved by the Admissions service. More information: admissions@luca-arts.be.

Residency conditions

Students with a foreign nationality and who successfully passed our admission procedure may need the following documents when coming to Belgium: a visa/entry document, a work permit and a residence permit.  Which specific documents you need, and how to apply for them, depends on your situation. Non-EEA nationals will need to follow different procedures depending on the length of stay when they arrive in Belgium. EEA nationals and Swiss nationals do not need a visa (or work permit) to enter Belgium.

Upon arrival in Belgium, you will have to complete your enrolment as student.  For an enrolment at LUCA School of Arts it is obligatory that non-EEA students hold a valid visa/entry document or a (Belgian) residence permit. Are you a EEA citizen? In that case your identity card or passport is sufficient.

It will also be mandatory for EEA and non-EEA students to register at the town or city hall of their place of residence in Belgium, as soon as possible. The registration procedure is different for EEA nationals and Swiss nationals and non-EEA nationals, as non-EEA nationals will have to get a residence permit as legal residence document in Belgium.

Language Requirements

Dutch is the official language of instruction for all shortened trajectories. A candidate student with a diploma from outside the Flemish Community will be admitted to the program if they meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • Prove that they have successfully passed the exams of at least one academic year in Secondary or Higher Education, or a set of at least 54 credits in Higher Education, in Dutch.
  • Have passed a Dutch language exam that provides a sufficient level for admission to Higher Education.
  • Have passed level 5 of the Dutch exam organized by a recognized language institute.
  • Present a certificate from a Dutch course that the university considers equivalent to the aforementioned conditions.
  • Present a certificate indicating that the candidate student has at least a B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Students may be exempted from these requirements:

  • If they are enrolled in the context of a dual degree program;
  • Based on a test or intake interview.

Learning Credit Condition

At the time of registration, the balance of your learning credit will always be checked. Students who no longer have any learning credit cannot be admitted.

You can check the status of your learning credit at any time at www.studentenportaal.be.

Positive or Negative Balance

If you graduate without any issues with a Professional or Academic Bachelor's degree, you will still have 200 study points available.
