David Cassan

David Cassan is an internationally recognized French organist and improviser, considered one of the notable figures of the French organ scene.

Studied organ, improvisation, and composition at the Conservatoire de Caen and at the Conservatoires Nationaux Supérieurs de Musique in Paris and Lyon.

Performs internationally as a soloist, collaborating with orchestras including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de Lyon, and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse.

Has performed widely across Europe, Asia, and South America, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, Israel, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, and Uruguay.

Recognized interpreter of the organ repertoire, with a particular affinity for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and French composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Active improviser, regularly accompanying silent films on organ or piano.

Prizewinner of around ten international first prizes, including the competitions of Grand Prix de Chartres, St Albans International Organ Competition, and International Organ Improvisation Competition Haarlem; also received the Grand Prix Jean‑Louis Florentz.

Gives international masterclasses and serves regularly on juries for national and international organ competitions.

Teaches organ at the Conservatoire de Nancy and improvisation at the Conservatoire de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés; directs the Alpe d’Huez Organ Improvisation Academy (since 2020) and teaches at the Schola Cantorum de Paris (since 2025).

Appointed organist of the Oratoire du Louvre in Paris in 2017.

In 2025, became co-titular organist of the grand organ of Saint-Étienne-du-Mont in Paris, succeeding Thierry Escaich at the historic organ associated with Maurice Duruflé.
