Book presentation: Tapta: Espaces souples.

Talks, lezingen en congressen

This publication originates from the exhibition Tapta: Espaces souples. With Greet Billet, Hana Miletić and Richard Venlet at WIELS, Brussels (2023). Through photographic views, the reader is invited to visually (re)visit the exhibition and (re)discover the “supple sculptures” by the Polish Belgian artist Tapta (1926–1997) and new works by Greet Billet, Hana Miletić, and Richard Venlet, which were inspired by Tapta’s practice and made specifically, or adapted, for the exhibition.

About Tapta

In the 1960s and 1970s, Tapta belonged a new generation of artists who sought to rethink sculpture by introducing textiles and other flexible materials as sculptural elements. In doing so, she helped to take textile art beyond the categories of ornament and craft. This exhibition book focuses on Tapta’s attention to the tactility of her materials, the suppleness of structures, individual and collective practice, and the interaction between artwork, space, and viewer.
